Effects of Electromagnetic Field

Dr. Stefan asks:
I found little information about tissue regeneration around  dental implants under the action of a electromagnetic field.

However, it would seem that electromagnetic fields can  positively influence  tissue regeneration around dental implants. I am looking for any information or a clinic, university or lab (and a partner) where I can perform studies regarding the influence of electromagnetic fields on dental implants. Please post any information. Thanks.

I am a dentist involved with a company that manufactures an electromagnetic pulsed therapy device in St. Catharines Ontario Canada. Empirical evidence shows positive reduction in healing time of all sorts of chronic and acute injury. Although we have not used it specifically for dental implant treatment this and other types of oral surgical applications should be investigated. Please feel free to contact me for further discussion.

There is a company in the UK that produces a synthetic bone augmentation product that has a small electrical surface charge on it to encourage quiker bone growth around dental implants - www.biocomposites.com - hope this helps.

ps to above comment

the electric charge is supposed to upregulate the gene factor by attracting bone growth proteins into the site at significantly higher levels than with a standard graft material.
